Ditch & Culvert Cleanout in Elgin, Oxford & Norfolk Counties
Blocked ditches and plugged culverts cause problems fast. Water backs up, washes out driveways, floods basements, and erodes property edges. In rural Southwestern Ontario, where most properties rely on roadside drainage, keeping ditches flowing is basic property maintenance that too many people put off until the damage is already done. We clean out ditches and culverts so water goes where it's supposed to go.

What's included
- Ditch clearing of sediment, debris, vegetation, and leaf buildup
- Culvert flushing and blockage removal
- Reshaping and grading of ditch profiles where needed
- Skid steer and excavation equipment for heavy cleanouts
- Debris removal and site cleanup
- Residential, agricultural, and municipal properties
Why ditch maintenance matters
Ditches aren't decorative. They're engineered drainage channels that move water away from roads, driveways, and foundations. When they fill with silt, leaves, and overgrown vegetation, water pools instead of flowing. That standing water erodes banks, undermines driveways, and during heavy rain or spring thaw, floods low-lying areas of your property.
Culverts under driveways are even more vulnerable. A partially blocked culvert restricts flow during normal rain and fails completely during a heavy storm. The result is water over the driveway, washout on both sides, and an expensive repair. Regular cleanout prevents all of it.
When to schedule a cleanout
Most properties benefit from at least one cleanout per year. Properties along low-lying roads, near agricultural fields, or with long driveway culverts should schedule spring and fall service.
- Early spring (March to April): clear winter debris and silt before spring melt and rain push peak water volume through the system.
- Late fall (October to November): remove leaf accumulation and check culverts before freeze-up.
- After major storms: heavy rain can deposit enough sediment in one storm to block a culvert that was flowing fine the week before.
What we handle
If the culvert is collapsed, crushed, or rusted through, we'll flag it and can coordinate replacement. We won't flush water through a pipe that's going to fail and make the problem worse.
- Roadside ditches along residential and rural properties
- Driveway culverts (round pipe, corrugated steel, concrete)
- Field drainage ditches on agricultural properties
- Outlet ditches from sump pump and foundation drain systems
- Municipal and HOA drainage channels
Equipment we bring
The right tool depends on the job. A hand-maintained residential ditch takes a different approach than a 200-metre agricultural channel choked with cattails. We use a skid steer with a grading bucket for ditch reshaping, high-pressure water for culvert flushing, an excavator for deep sediment removal and bank repair, and hand tools for tight residential sections near landscaping and fences — matched to the property so we clear the drainage without tearing up the yard around it.
